My Laid off Experience

Recently, I was laid off by my employer. I joined 3 months back, only straight after college. And the experience I am going to share is my personal experience, and other people might feel different because of n number of parameters.

To be honest, when my cluster lead told me that you had been let go. My mind stops working for a moment. They gave me a notice period of 2 months, in which I didn't have to work for the company, but they will provide a salary for the 2 months as in a normal case. So, for some, it might be a good thing that they can find a new job in the next 2 months and they are being paid for the preparation period required to crack other companies. And to be honest, 2 months is a lot to prepare and get another job. Then the question arises of why this info of being let go scared the shit out of me.

I was scared primarily because I am the only bread and butter-earner in my family. And because of my job, my whole family shifted with me. So, this dependency of them on me scared the shit out of me. Because I am already struggling with the amount of responsibility, you carry as an earner. As I didn't anticipate how quickly my life was changing. This news completely disturbs my dynamics. Apart from this, other parameters were how will I find a job quickly with the same pay scale in this economic crisis, as my family has planned out everything based on my current pay scale. And when you start giving interviews, this disturbance in your mind highly affects your presence of mind which, in my opinion, plays a vital role in cracking the interview. Because of this, you will face a kind of domino effect, i.e., you start losing confidence in yourself when you can't crack the interview or receive another interview call, which leads to more disturbance in your mind.

Luckily, I found the job now. So, soon my mental state will be back to peace. But this was a scary experience. And on the positive side, it reminds me that I need to become more mentally strong. Because this experience is not the scariest I have experienced. So, I thought that I could handle this situation easily. But, I think when it comes to the family, for me, everything gets blacked out.

My learnings from this experience are, please make sure that you have basic investment done right, i.e., 6 - 12 months of emergency funds and Health insurance apart from your corporate. We tend to neglect this very easily, but this situation made me know the actual value of it. As it surely helps you to keep your focus in one place. And I'm again saying that please, guys have some health insurance apart from your corporate policy it will cost you only a small amount from your salary but can help you to save all your savings from burning in health disease if your family gets any during this period of unemployment. An emergency fund will also become useless if something happens to your family. And I was also scared of this. Because my mother had epilepsy and survived with cancer (brain tumor), and my father has some issues with this neural system. Both diseases are directly related to the stress they take on their mind. And you know how parents are they can deal with the worst of worst situations. But if anything happens to their children, they lose all control over their minds.

So, this was my experience when I got laid off.
